Cancer is curable with early detection

Non-communicable diseases kill people more than infectious diseases, and “cancers” is one of the top four non-communicable diseases that cause people deaths, according to the World Health Organization report in 2012. As a result, screening test for cancers is very important for the early detection and treatment. Each type of cancers has different guidelines.

For example,
Breast cancer: Clinical breast exam is recommended for women in aged 20s and 30s every 3 years and aged 40 and above every year, and yearly mammograms is necessary for women aged from 40.
Colorectal cancer: Both men and women aged from 50 should take one of these screening tests – flexible sigmoidoscopy every 5 years, colonoscopy every 10 years, double-contrast barium enema every 5 years, or CT colonography every 5 years.
Lung cancer: The screening test should be done for the people aged 55 to 74 years old who have at least 30 years of smoking.
